Elizabeth Jackson has been named USA Track and Field’s Athlete of the Week posting a world-leading time of 9 minutes, 59.50 seconds in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the Pomona Invitational.
A senior at Brigham Young University, Jackson is the current American record holder and collegiate record holder in the steeplechase. She also is the only American to break 10 minutes in the event. In addition to her sub-10 performance at Pomona, Jackson won the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials in a national-record time of 9:57.20.
The Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., was the site of several top performances over the weekend.
